The First Meeting of the Scientific Committee of International Conference on "South Khorasan, Transit & Development of Iran's Eastern Corridor" Held in Birjand

For the purpose of portraying a more clear picture of eastern regions of Iran and the key role of South Khorasan province in this strategic corridor, the International Conference on "South Khorasan, Transit & Development of Iran's Eastern Corridor" shall be organized in Birjand, South Khorasan province of Iran in 2010.
Mohammad Ali Bijari, director general of the office for the coordination of economic affairs of the governor general office of South Khorasan province and
executive secretary of the Conference announced the news and added: "due to the special significance which is attached to the eastern transit corridor in terms of Iran's trade and non-oil exports, arrangement of international conferences centering on the role of the eastern provinces of the country and economic development of this corridor is on the agenda and the first conference of
this type was arranged in Tehran under the title of "Chabahar, Transit and Development of the Eastern Corridor" on 25-26 May, 2008. Based on a proposal offered by the governor general's office of South Khorasan province as one of the members of the policy making council of Tehran Conference and approval of the Board of Trustees of the said conference, the second conference on the development of the eastern corridor entitled "
International Conference on "South Khorasan, Transit & Development of Iran's Eastern Corridor" was scheduled to be organized in Birjand in 2010."
He further stated: "in view of participation of government and non-government sectors and organizations as well as international bodies and institutions involved in such subjects as transport, foreign trade, local and foreign investment in this conference, planning is underway for better arrangement of this conference and for that purpose, so far, the members of the scientific committee, the executive headquarters and the board of trustees of the Conference have attended several meetings in Tehran and Birjand to address the case. On May 20th, 2009, the first meeting of the conference's scientific committee was held in Birjand in the presence of the esteemed governor general and chairman of the conference, Dr. Shahriar Afandizadeh, deputy
minister of road and transportation who also serves as secretary of the scientific committee of the conference as well as heads and deputies of the specialized working groups of the conference."
Mohammad Ali Bijari continued by saying: "in order to make optimum use of the scientific potentials available in the Province's universities, the
deputies of all specialized working groups have been nominated from among the faculty members of Birjand universities who maintain close and sincere cooperation with the scientific committee and the executive headquarters of
the Conference. The subjects and objectives of the Conference, the procedure for the submission of articles and conditions for participation in this Conference have been approved by the esteemed members of the scientific committee
while interested parties, researchers, students and major players of various economic sectors from across the country as well as those from other countries of the world are provided with the opportunity to present their articles on
the subject specified by the Conference."
Interested parties and researchers are invited to submit their article abstracts to the secretariat of the Conference no later than September 6th,
2009.
